Who we are
Barki Sofa Hub is a sole trader business. Trading address: Unit 4 Hutton Street, Blackburn, Lancashire, BB1 3BY, United Kingdom. This is our storage and dispatch unit and is not open to visitors — please contact us by WhatsApp, phone or email.
We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. If you have any question about it, contact us at barkisofahub739@gmail.com.
What we collect
We collect only what we need to quote for a sofa, make it and deliver it:
- Your name and contact details — phone number, WhatsApp number, email address
- Your delivery address, and any access details you give us
- Your order details — model, fabric, colour, dimensions, room measurements and any photographs of your room you choose to send
- Our correspondence with you — the WhatsApp, email or call history relating to your enquiry or order
- Payment status — whether a deposit or balance has been paid. We do not collect or store card numbers or bank login details.
This website is a static site. It does not have a login or a shopping basket. Our short order form does not send your answers to us or store them: it simply writes them into a WhatsApp message, which you can check before you press send. Apart from that, we collect nothing from you simply by your visiting, other than the analytics and advertising measurement described below if you agree to them.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
We use Google Analytics to understand which pages visitors find useful — for example, whether people read our measuring guide before ordering. This tells us about pages, not about people: we cannot see who you are from it.
If you agree, we also use the Meta Pixel, a tool from Meta (the company behind Facebook and Instagram). It tells us when someone visits our site, opens our order form, or sends their sofa choice to us on WhatsApp through the form, and whether they first came from one of our Facebook or Instagram adverts. It records which sofa and size type you chose, but not your colour notes, measurements or phone number. This helps us see which adverts work and show them to people likely to be interested. Meta may link this information to your Facebook or Instagram account and use it under its own privacy policy.
Analytics and the Meta Pixel are switched off until you agree to them. When you first visit, a small bar asks whether you are happy for us to use them. If you decline, or simply ignore it, no analytics or advertising cookies are set and no data about your visit is sent to Google or Meta. If you accept, we remember that choice in your browser so you are not asked again.
We do not sell your data. The Meta Pixel is the only advertising tool we use, and it only runs if you accept. Your IP address is anonymised before it reaches Google Analytics.
To change your mind, clear this site's data in your browser settings and the choice will be offered again on your next visit. You can also block cookies for this site entirely — nothing on the site will stop working if you do.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To answer your enquiry and quote a price — because you have asked us to, as steps taken at your request before entering a contract.
- To make and deliver your sofa and take payment — because it is necessary to perform our contract with you.
- To handle faults, repairs and complaints — for our legitimate interest in running the business properly, and to meet our legal obligations to you as a consumer.
- To keep records required by law, such as records relating to tax — to comply with a legal obligation.
- To measure how the website is used — only with your consent, which you give or refuse on the bar that appears on your first visit and can withdraw at any time.
We do not use your information for marketing unless you have asked us to, and we do not sell or rent your details to anyone.
Who else sees it
- WhatsApp (Meta Platforms). If you contact us on WhatsApp, your messages are carried by WhatsApp and handled under their own privacy terms as well as this policy. Messages are end-to-end encrypted in transit, but WhatsApp still processes data about the fact and timing of messages. If you would rather not use it, phone or email us instead.
- Our delivery team, who receive your name, address, phone number and access notes so they can deliver the sofa.
- Email and phone providers that carry our correspondence.
- Professional advisers and HMRC, where we are required to keep or produce records.
- Google, if you have agreed to analytics, which processes anonymised information about how the site is used.
This website is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub processes the technical information your browser sends — including your IP address — in order to serve the pages to you.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not lead to an order are deleted once the conversation is clearly finished, normally within 12 months. Order records are kept for six years from delivery, which covers both the period in which a consumer claim can be brought in England and Wales and our record-keeping obligations for tax.
Where your information is held
Some of the services we rely on, including WhatsApp and our email provider, may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, it is done under the safeguards those providers put in place for international transfers, such as the UK addendum to the standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you; to have inaccurate information corrected; to have information erased where we no longer need it; to restrict or object to how we use it; and to receive certain information in a portable format.
To exercise any of these, email barkisofahub739@gmail.com. We will respond within one month. There is no charge.
Some rights have limits — for example, we cannot erase order records we are legally required to keep, and we cannot delete a WhatsApp conversation from your own device.
Security
We keep your information to the minimum we need, restrict access to it, and use reputable providers. No system is completely secure, but if a breach occurred that was likely to put your rights at risk we would tell you and the Information Commissioner's Office without undue delay.
Children
We sell to adults. We do not knowingly collect information about children, and deliveries must be received by someone aged 18 or over.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
This policy is a plain-English draft prepared for Barki Sofa Hub. It is not legal advice. Please have it reviewed by a qualified adviser before relying on it.
